I used to think waiting on God meant sitting there passively until He finally moved, like a customer stuck in a slow line. The biblical picture is more active than that. It's a posture of being tethered, bound tightly to Him while the timeline plays out on its own schedule.
Waiting well doesn't mean gritting your teeth until the answer arrives. It means staying twisted together with God's character in the meantime, trusting His timing enough that the wait itself becomes a place of strength rather than just something to endure.
The Hebrew qavah, translated "wait" in Isaiah 40:31, comes from a root meaning to twist or bind together, like strands of a cord. Waiting on God isn't idle delay. It's being intertwined with Him while you wait.
